The valve combines both instruments to new, sophisticated slide combinations:

Whole-tone and half-tone trills can be produced on all the positions of both instruments, with the alternating note above in Bb and below in C, so that all types of trills and grace notes are possible. The C instrument permits as many glissandi as the one in Bb, even exceeding the latter's possibilities by a semitone, since in C the long Bb slide provides an 8th position and thus spans the interval of a perfect fifth:

The Bb-C tenor trombone offers ample scope for combination. By the addition of an F attachment it becomes a fully chromatic (bass) trombone in the lightest construction imaginable (B-C-F-G).
