Gordon Wolfe

Gordon Wolfe has served as Principal Trombone of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 2006, having joined the orchestra in 2001. Recognized as one of Canada’s leading orchestral brass musicians, he has built an international career as a performer, soloist, chamber musician, and educator.

Before joining the Toronto Symphony, Gordon was a member of both the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Victoria Symphony. He has also appeared as a guest with many of North America’s finest ensembles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra.

Originally from western Canada, Gordon studied with renowned Canadian trombonists Ian McDougall, Thomas Eadie, and Peter Sullivan at the University of Victoria and McGill University, working towards both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees.

An accomplished chamber musician, Gordon has enjoyed a distinguished career in brass chamber music. He was a member of Northern Brass and a founding member of Central Park Brass in New York City. In Toronto, he performs regularly with Brass Artists of the Royal Conservatory (BARC) and has inspired thousands of young musicians across Ontario through the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Preludes education program.

Equally at home on the concert stage as a soloist, Gordon has appeared with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Regina Symphony Orchestra, and Hannaford Street Silver Band. He has been featured at the International Trombone Festival and released his acclaimed debut solo recording, Reflections, in 2015.

As an educator, Gordon is widely respected for developing the next generation of exceptional brass musicians. His studio at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School attracts many of Canada’s most talented young trombonists, many of whom have gone on to successful professional careers in major orchestras and ensembles.
